Dr. Horne graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He completed medical school at Mercer University School of Medicine, Macon, Georgia.
After graduating from medical school, Dr. Horne completed his residency in Internal Medicine at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. Thereafter, he moved to Florida to complete his fellowship in General Cardiology at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Dr. Horne stayed with University of Florida in Gainesville for two additional years for sub-specialty training in Electrophysiology.
